Microcystins are hepatoxic, carcinogenic compounds produced by certain types of cyanobacteria commonly found in surface water algae blooms. The World Health Organization has established a maximum contaminant level of 1 ug/L and these have been analyzed by SPE concentration and HPLC in the past. By taking advantage of the high sensitivity of the instrument, Weck employs a direct injection LCMSMS method that bypasses the concentration step.
